Whereas Executive Coaching has permeated corporate boardrooms in the US and Europe over the last few years; the concept is in the entry phase within the East Africa Region. Indeed prior to 2009, executives in the region who needed professional executive coaching services had to seek such services from foreign providers as local supply of such expertise was hardly existent.
Like any other professional service in the entry phase operating in a non-defined regulatory context; issues of Quality Standards and Professionalism become a real challenge. Executive Coaching in East Africa is no exception. With minimal barriers to entry, its not inconceivable for anybody to label themselves Executive Coach. This is the core impetus that propelled the founder members to conceptualise and actualise the Institute of Executive Coaches of East Africa; IEC-EA.
